Medicine and Movement

Welcome. As a medical provider, author, educator, and movement and meditation teacher, I share an integrative, holistic, and natural approach – everything from nutrition and herbal medicine to mindfulness, yoga and somatic movement.
I draw insights from eighteen years in holistic health, including my formal study and clinical practice of Chinese Medicine – I have a postgraduate doctorate with professional licensure in acupuncture and herbal medicine, which was a five-year full-time program comprising Western medical sciences, diagnostic skills, and clinical training and an internship at Liaoning University Hospital in Shen Yang, China. I am also certified by the National Ayurveda Medical Association and have many thousands of hours of training and professional certifications in complementary disciplines, including holistic nutrition, Western herbal medicine, and functional medicine.
At the heart of my work is a deep reverence for the natural world — fostering a connection to our beautiful Earth and helping people heal is a big motivating force behind my work. In myriad ways, we live in a troubled world. Modern people often feel disconnected—from themselves, each other, and the natural world. Addressing our social and environmental crisis cannot be fully realized without addressing this separation. Working with and healing our disconnection helps us not only feel better but also helps us be more available to act compassionately on behalf of our larger world.
We need an integrative paradigm that includes the healing power of Earth-based medicine and mindful movement.
One that helps us feel and understand our body-mind as interconnected with larger natural rhythms and fosters a deep sense of presence and embodiment.
As a long-time teacher and student of yoga, somatic studies, and therapeutic movement, I bring over seventeen years and many thousands of hours of dedicated personal practice and teaching to my classes and offerings.
The yoga and movement classes I offer are therapeutic in nature, focus on students’ individual needs, and are influenced by in-depth and long-term study of anatomy, bodywork, Buddhism, Daoism (also called Taoism), Chinese Medicine, and Ayurveda. Classes weave the physical yoga postures with spiritual, philosophical, energetic, and anatomical teachings and often center on contemplative awareness and the spiritual aspects of practice.
Along with dynamic forms that teach alignment and encourage strength and stability, I also teach a practice I call “Mindful Yin Yoga” and a somatic movement practice I call “Yin Somatics,” designed to soothe the nervous system, unwind strain and fatigue, build vitality, and support abiding presence.
Beyond my foundational yoga training, I have studied in-depth with dozens of insightful and well-known teachers. I am certified to teach through several advanced multi-year programs, including the Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s eighteen-month Mindful Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training and the two-year Insight Yoga Institute Training, among others. I am also a 500-hour senior teacher with Tias and Surya Little’s Prajna Yoga, certified to teach the somatic practice S.A.T.Y.A. I am an ERYT500 registered yoga school and continuing education provider with the Yoga Alliance.
Whether you’re looking for solutions to your health concerns, or you’re a yoga teacher or health practitioner
looking for movement, mindfulness, and medicine inspiration and training - I’ve got you covered.
I am very grateful to the many places all over the world where I’ve offered my work over the years, including being faculty at Pacific Rim College of Integrative Medicine, the many yoga studios and retreat centers that have hosted me, teaching alongside my Buddhist teachers Thanissara and Kittisaro during their month-long silent retreat, volunteering with the Acupuncture Relief Project in Nepal, and contributing to several yoga therapy programs.
These days, I live and work in beautiful BC, Canada, on the sacred and traditional lands of the Ktunaxa and Sinixt peoples.
I enjoy seeing patients in my private medical practice, offering classes, courses, and teacher training online and internationally, as well as in-person retreats on beautiful Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada. I also spend much of my time writing. My upcoming book, with Shambhala Publications, will be released in 2025.
