A Meditation to Pause and Relax

Do you ever feel like you need to just pause? I know I do. When I first began practicing yoga and meditation, rest and relaxation practices provided almost immediate positive results. I felt a shift in my life, in my mind, and in my heart. Sometimes we just need some down time!  In fact, setting aside quiet time to reflect every day can be a deeply transformative practice.

Taking time to pause and relax is an essential tool to stay sane in this crazy busy world. If you want to stay clear, and support your body, mind, and heart, slowing down every day is mandatory. When you slow down and consciously relax, you give yourself time to digest your daily life, and you become more open to insight as it arises.

Setting aside time every day does require some motivation and dedication. But remember – your commitment doesn’t have to be a big unattainable goal. It’s better to start with something manageable. Start with 5 or 10 minutes and increase the time from there. Everyone has 5 minutes, no matter how busy you are!

Spending this time with yourself will help you be present, get more done, and generally enjoy life more. It can also be very beneficial for your hormonal system, your immune system, and your nervous system.

I find doing a movement practice that helps me to sink into my body and out of my head, combined with some meditation is very helpful in developing greater ease. You can find some movement practices here and here.

Below you’ll find a short 15 min. meditation for guidance. Find a quiet space, lay down on your back, and sink into the stillness.

I challenge you to find the time this week to pause. For 5-15 min. first thing in the morning, or in the evening before going to bed, feel your breath, and notice your body. Notice the urge to fill the moment with something and instead, allow things to settle.
