For my last few weeks at the hospital in Shen Yang China I have been rotating through the chiropractic, cosmetology and gynecology departments.
In this department we observed a doctor from Korea perform countless spinal adjustments. His treatment protocol also included rice grain moxa burned at specific points on the body.
In cosmetology I learned many techniques for helping with weight loss - including specific massage and cupping techniques, electrical stimulation of points, and bleeding points. There were also a number of treatments for reducing wrinkles, evening out the complexion and increasing circulation in the skin.
Check out the photo! Don't worry... I don't plan on using that many cups!
This was one of my favorite departments. I have a strong interest in women's health and much of my private practice revolves around it. This was a very busy department with many complaints ranging from amenorrhea (no period), dysmenorrhea (painful periods), irregular periods, complications from contraception, infertility, pregnancy, miscarriage, spotting, hormonal imbalance, infections, PMS, cervical erosion, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), ectopic preganancy, and conditions related to menopause such as hot flashes, fatigue, and night sweats.
Once again I was able to follow the doctor through every stage of assessment, diagnosis and treatment which afforded me invaluable experience.
In a few days I will be flying to my beautiful island home of Victoria BC ready to enjoy the sea breeze and the unfurling of spring into summer!
A special thanks to my lovely interpreter Wang Lin Lin. Without you I would have been lost! (quite literally!) and to the awesome Mr. Dan - the best China buddy.
Until next time,
